Campaign for a blue plaque for Olaudah Equiano

As you might be aware, we have a massive thing about making history meaningful, rigorous and fun. W also have a massive thing about plaques, hence our Peterloo and London is the Place to be lessons. Well, here is an absolutely cracking idea from Donald Cummings, AHT and SHP regional adviser. The idea is simple – get your students to answer this question: Does Equiano deserve a blue plaque in London?

If the answer is yes, then get them to write to English Heritage and lobby for one.

It is such a great idea because it gets kids to work with historical significance in a really meaningful way. I mean, getting your class to write to English Heritage with strong arguments about Equiano’s significance, based on evidence makes history real.
