Migration 26: Drunken women and slip-shod vowels: How were Irish migrants received in Liverpool?

This enquiry focuses on the experiences of Irish migrants in Liverpool.

It  fulfils the case study listed in the specification ‘Liverpool in the nineteenth century: its role in migration and the experiences of migrants, including Irish migrants’.

Students plot Irish migrants’ changing experiences over time on to a graph.

Next they complete a ‘tug of war’ activity in which they are challenged with finding evidence to substantiate two different arguments.

Finally, they ‘put the cherry on top’ of an exam-style response, improving the answer with specific contextual knowledge.
