Migration 9: Why were European Jews persecuted during the 1300s?

This enquiry  looks at the prejudice and discrimination experienced by Jewish people across Europe during the 1300s.

Clues are given to students in a drip-feed approach.

First they  try to work out why Jewish people were persecuted during the 14th century.

Next they work out  why Jewish people (in particular) might have been targeted as ready scapegoats for the outbreak of the Black Death in the 1300s.

The enquiry is engaging and pacey, and finishes off by getting students to identify parallels between the worrying treatment of Jewish people in response to COVID-19, and their treatment during the medieval period across Europe.
