Teaching Issues

GCSE exam technique placemats

One thing we know works in teaching students to do well in GCSE history exams, is preparing them to write well. Sounds so simple yet we often automatically think our students have this skill because they have arrived in year 10. Unfortunately, this assumption is often wrong!!

So how do we get our students to write well? Why not use GCSE exam technique placemats?

The teachers at history resource cupboard have always structured our GCSE courses around the main types of questions: ‘Why’ and ‘Judgement’. I think I read about this in Teaching History at the back end of the 20th century. The article was written by the wonderful Diana Laffin, a brilliant teacher and the loveliest lady.
