Creating overviews – a few thoughts and ideas

I’m not sure who termed the phrase ‘parachutists and truffle hunters’ or when? But it is still as true today as ever: we need to help our pupils think about the big picture of history or a longer period of time. That’s why we thing creating overviews is a great idea.

Increasingly teachers have been come more and more confident at creating tightly focused enquiries, based around well crafted enquiry questions within a particular time period. We also need to see the big picture and look at patterns of change.

So how do we develop the overview before plunging into the depth?  Here at history resource cupboard we offer tried and tested ideas that have worked time and again with our different classes.
