History Resource Cupboard - lessons and resources for schools

Why was Edward III such a successful medieval monarch?

Edward IIIThis enquiry offers an engaging way of encountering evidence from the reign of Edward III.

Your students will ‘meet’ different characters, all of whom describe events from Edward’s reign from a personal perspective.

A hyper-linked map allows students to take ownership of the lesson direction, and to choose which evidence they wish to consider.

Finally, students are encouraged to respond to the big question by conducting paired debates, before outlining their own conclusions in written form.

This enquiry fits in to the Medieval Power unit and helps your students gain this substantive knowledge. You can test this knowledge here.
