History Resource Cupboard - lessons and resources for schools

To what extent was political change caused by riots and rebels in the 19th century?

This enquiry gives students the chance to gain an overview understanding of some of the big political changes of the 19th century. It will familiarise them with concepts and events that might appear somewhat difficult to comprehend.

Students learn about some of the reforms that shaped British politics in the 19th century, including the 1832 Reform Act. They plot  these changes on a graph alongside the riots and rebellions of the period. This empowers them to decide whether riots and rebels really did change the course of political history.

Finally, students are able to answer the big question, writing their responses in the form of a forum reply.
