History Resource Cupboard - lessons and resources for schools

14. What impact did migrant groups have on the development of early Britain?

This assessment gives your year 7 classes the chance to encounter the most  under theorised  second order concept in the curriculum: consequences

First, students are introduced to street art in the form of murals. They look at a number of murals found of the streets of Northern Ireland and consider what makes them an effective form of communication.

Next they consider the impact each different migrant group had on Britain.

They then plan,  draw and annotate their mural.

They use criteria to ensure that they have included what is required. You can use this criteria to help provide clear, formative feedback.

In all, this engaging assessment encourages students to think about the impact of the different migrant groups in a creative and fun way.
