History Resource Cupboard - lessons and resources for schools

Why was World War One described as ‘Great’?

PoppiesThe aim of this lesson is for students to use a set of criteria in order to evaluate the Significance of World War One. They will then be given an opportunity to apply their understanding of the significance criteria by evaluating the coverage of World War One in a school textbook.

This lesson can also be used as a model with which to develop other significance based lessons for other topics in your curriculum.

The lesson works really well with all students – we have tried it out many times with great success.
