History Resource Cupboard - lessons and resources for schools

1. Introduction Task: ‘Arrogant, warlike and very pleased with themselves’: What were the Normans really like?

This activity serves to introduce the ‘big story’ of the unit.

You could use it in the first lesson of the unit, to help give students an overview of this unit on the Norman Conquest.

Or, it would be a great homework activity: students could be tasked with reading the ‘story’ independently, and then answering the comprehension tasks at the end.

Help introduce students to the Norman Conquest, its consequences and  the changes it brought about.

This task also introduces your students to the complex character of William of Normandy.
