Curriculum planning and the issue of marking

Neil Bates and I have been working together from afar for many years. We have taught in different schools but have always met up to swap resources.  However, we were lucky enough to have been working together in the same school.  Poor Neil had me as his Head of Hums!

We have decided to update and tweak what we do at Key Stage 3. To plan our curriculum we  met once a week, in our joint free lesson, to re-shape our offerings . This was no hardship and we often carried on into lunch, then continued after school.

After all, this is joyful work. What is better than talking about history teaching with a like minded colleague? So we spent hours discussing curriculum planning and the issue of marking.

What follows are our thoughts on workload, time saving approaches and sticking to your principles.
